Many contend that the USA has promoted an obesity trend to sweep around the world. The blame for this obesity problem is declared by many to lie with an unhealthy western diet that is increasingly being encouraged in developing nations.

As a direct result of this bad diet and an increasingly sedentary way of living, lots of people are becoming overweight. Unfortunately, because young people are all too keen to ridicule those who are even slightly different from the vaguely defined ‘norm’, those who are overweight often find themselves the victims of mockery and bullying purely because of their appearance. Not only is this unfair, it’s unwarranted.

The diversions available to teenagers are more than they’ve ever been and tend increasingly to revolve around games consoles, PCs and television, all of which are highly sedentary pastimes. The result of these sedentary existences combined with fat and sugar laden diets, is of course fat gain and eventually obesity.

Many family and friends of overweight teenagers are concerned about their weight but say nothing about it. It’s unfortunate that in our modern society it’s still regular for the overweight and obese to be ridiculed and humiliated. However something can be worked out, even if society can’t be changed, the heavy person can do something to get teenage weight loss.

If you’re a teenager trying to get teen weight loss then the ways to losing weight are the same as they are for anyone else, namely sufficient exercise and a balanced diet. I’ve already said that so many of the activities chosen by teenagers and young people in general don’t need a lot of physical effort. Although, such non-physical activities are not the only grounds teenagers and young people use to defend their lack of exercise.

Just one of these reasons is that teenage girls usually are quite concerned with their appearance and shun using weights or similar because they think they’ll look overly muscled. Building muscle so that they are obviously different is a gradual process, so that when you think you’ve reached a level of strength you’re happy with you can easily stop before it gets too far for you. Besides, it’s relatively easy to tone up and appear leaner than it is to really bulk up.

Everyone, and it seems especially teenagers, are at least a little awkward about going to a gym if they’re overweight. This is regrettable because they have no reason to be. The other members of a gym generally don’t notice much about others while they’re there and may have been in your situation themselves once.

Such a train of thought can mean that anyone who is heavier but wants to lose weight may feel powerless to do so, feeling caught by circumstance and unhappy. As luck would have it, it’s well known that you’ll be able to lift your mood precisely by doing more exercise. By exercising the body releases endorphins which will naturally help you feel happier and generally positive about yourself.

As a teenager you don’t have to be overweight to get some great benefits from exercising more. Frequent workouts and training sessions can make us all look better through a leaner body and clearer skin. Having a healthy diet will assist but training hard will also do wonders for your pores.

However, there is a chance that a teenager could find coping with a weight loss plan harder than an adult would. This is because starting a new diet can be difficult, more so in the early days, and commonly young people don’t have the necessary levels of staying power. That is where their support contacts come in to offer moral support, praise and encouragement to help them avoid temptations and keep them on the straight and narrow.

The greatest support a teenager trying to lose weight can get is from friends and family and if that’s not available then they can get it from others who have already been through it via various support networks or even on dieting forums.
